The best gift cards for gamers (and how to pick one)

A simple way to choose the right gaming gift card when you do not know what they play.

The best gaming gift card is the one for the platform the person actually plays on. Here is how to find out without spoiling the surprise.

Find their platform

Console players: PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch.
PC players: often Steam, sometimes other launchers.
Mobile players: Google Play or Apple, or a top-up for their favourite game.

Popular choices

Steam cards for PC players.
PlayStation and Xbox cards for console players.
Nintendo eShop cards for Switch owners.
Roblox, Valorant or Fortnite cards for fans of one game.

Do not forget the region

Ask which country their account is in, or check their console settings with them. A card for the wrong region will not redeem.

Not sure? A store card like Steam or PlayStation is more flexible than a single-game card.
